With Dorothy Zbornak having married and left in the previous series finale, the three remaining cast members (Dorothy's mother, Sophia Petrillo, Rose Nylund, and Blanche Devereaux) decide to invest in a Miami hotel that is up for sale. In the end, a lack of Bea Arthur coupled with a poorly executed idea and uninspired episodic storylines leaves a lot to be desired. The Golden Palace begins where The Golden Girls had ended, in the quartet's now-sold Miami house. Even though the character makes a two-episode guest appearance, it isn't enough to save the show. While The Golden Palace features three out of the four original women, Dorothy, who married Lucas (Leslie Nielsen) in The Golden Girls's final season, is noticeably missing. ![]() The idea was sound, but the writers weren’t ready for it."
